Our Branson Bed and
Breakfast is
actually two houses
- a house which
was built by one the
area's first
pharmacists, and a
cottage built by a
family named Gray.
Before the cities of
Hollister or Branson
were ever plotted,
there are pictures
of the cottage,
which is now our
Kite House Branson
Bed and Breakfast.
It is truly one of
the area's first
homes. The cottage
was built in 1909
out of logs from an
original School of
the Ozarks (Now
College of the
Ozarks) building.
The logs were taken
when the building
burned. However,
before the college
acquired the
building, it was
taken from the St.
Louis World's Fair
in 1904. When the
builders ran out of
logs, they finished
the building with
hand sawn lumber.

Renovations revealed
turn of the century
newspapers from
Memphis and
Nashville
advertising
musicians. The
papers were glued to
walls and hidden
behind plaster. How
prophetic that
papers from one
country music
capital could end up
in another, near 100
years old and 100
years later. Many of
the papers were
sheet rocked over
and left in place.

The Kite House Bed
and Breakfast was built
in 1912. The land was
purchased from the Iron
Mountain Railroad
Company. It was one of
the very first homes in
the area.
The masonry was done by a
man named Rein May from
Kirbyville, and the rocks
were hauled by horse and
wagon from Turkey Creek. The
original beveled-glass door,
and the red-tile roof are
here. The linoleum still in
the kitchen was added right
after World War Two and the
electricity (along with push
button brass switches) was
also added right after World
War II. Extensive rock
patios, porches, and rock
walls made the home quite a
showplace in its time.
As you stay in the Kite
House
Branson Bed and Breakfast
you will be staying in the
beginning of the Branson
History.
